Why Organics?
Protect Future Generations
Children receive four times the exposure than an adult to
at least eight wildly used cancer-causing pesticides in food. The
food choice you make now will impact your child’s health
in the future.
Reduce Health Risk
Many pesticides approved for use by the EPA were registered
before extensive research linking these chemicals to cancer
and other diseases had been established. Now the EPA
considers that 60 percent of all herbicides, 90 percent of
all fungicides and 30 percent of all insecticides are carcinogenic.
The bottom line is that pesticides are poisons designed
to kill living organisms, and can also be harmful to humans.
In addition to cancer, pesticides are implicated in birth
defects, nerve damage and genetic mutation.
It’s Simple
Organic means that your products and the ingredients your
products are made from have been processed and grown without
the use of synthetic chemicals, artificial fertilizers, pesticides
or herbicides. The products are grown naturally as
nature intended it to be by using sustainable farming techniques.
Why use Organic Skincare?
Traditional skincare and cosmetic products contain chemicals
which are easily absorbable through the skin or the lungs,
and from there enter the bloodstream. These chemicals
are often harmful and can cause skin reactions, irritation,
allergies, headaches and other undesirable conditions. Everything
that we put on our body is absorbed but then has to be cleansed
through the liver.
Ingredients to Avoid
There are some ingredients that you should look for in all
of your body products and cosmetics. When you see these
ingredients you would do well to avoid using them. It
is especially important that you do not use them in the long-term. It
is worth saying again, you should not use them at all, but
certainly do not use them for long periods of time.
True organic skin care products will not contain the ever
popular Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.
This chemical is what produces bubbles and foam in many
brands of shampoos, conditioners, face wash and bath products. It
is a common eye irritant as anyone who has gotten soap in
their eyes can attest. It can also be a skin irritant
for some people. Good, wholesome organic skin care
products do not use this chemical in their formulations.
In concentrations of only 2-5% can cause allergic or sensitization
reactions. Any impact these ingredients have on us,
are multiplied when used by children as their bodies are
still developing and therefore more susceptible to these
effects.
Diethanolamine (DEA)/Triethanolamine (TEA)
Synthetic compounds made from Ammonia and Ethylene oxide. There
are used as emulsifiers and in acidity control and found
in many skin lotions, eye gels, moisturizing creams, shaving
foams, shampoos and dermatological soaps. Many contain
nitrosamines that are potential carcinogens. The can
also cause severe facial dermatitis.
Parabens (methyl, propyl, butyl etc)
Synthetic preservatives widely used in foods and cosmetics. They
are antimicrobial, killing bacteria and moulds that may infect
products. They can be allergenic and toxic and have
been linked to asthma and eczema.
Propylene Glycol
Derived from petroleum propylene glycol and used as a humectant
(moisturizer), surfactant and solvent in many products. In
industry it is used in antifreeze and hydraulic brake fluid! It
can penetrate the outermost skin and carry other ingredients
into the deeper layers of the epidermis. Can cause
allergic and toxic reactions including dermatitis in some
individuals.
Did you Know
Several commercial moisturizers contain mineral oils. These
mineral oils are refined from crude oil, and they can cause
blackheads, eczema, and even spots on some people. Using
pure, organic skin care products for your moisturizing needs
will all but eliminate this potential health issue.
One of the main reasons it is so important to use organic
skin care products when you can is because about 60% of what
you apply to your skin will be absorbed into your body and
into your bloodstream. This is great news for those
nutrients and ingredients that are healthy for us, but it
is bad news for those chemicals that we do not want inside
our bodies.
Can you imagine that by using a range of body and skin care
products, women apply more than 200 chemicals to their skin
per day?
The unfortunate truth is that most mass produced skin care
that promises you healthy skin contains many harmful toxic
ingredients. They synthetic ingredients used to thicken,
bind, stabilize, fragrance & lengthen shelf life, compromise
our immune system and damage our health
No Nasties
This means no nasties like synthetic, fragrances and colours. When
you see the terms ‘fragrance’ or ‘parfum’ on
a beauty product these contain up to 100 different ingredients – which
can cause a problem if you are sensitive or allergic to a
particular fragrance chemical. In fact, synthetic fragrances
are the most frequent cause of allergies from cosmetics and
cause up tone third of all cosmetic allergies.
In conclusion
Our skin is responsible for maintaining the correct body
temperatures and it regulates our body‘s fluid balance. Each
day through many hundreds of thousands of skin pores, the
average human secretes over 850ml of fluid. The skin
functions as a nutritional factory, producing Vitamin D,
necessary in the formation of bone, and participates in the
metabolism of carbohydrates and amino acids. It is
important to remember, that the skin is a living part of
your body – often referred to as the “third kidney” – with
several well-developed and interrelated circulation systems;
blood, sweat, sebum, nerve and lymph, any of which can be
damaged by absorption of chemicals or enhanced by a good
skin care system.
What we really need to learn are the effects
of chemicals to our skin. Our skin is something that
we need to take care of. Imagine what our skin will
look like if damaged by those chemicals. Let us just
be kind to our body, it is just right for us to give them
the care that they want and that is caring them naturally.
